"Blue was part of our lives for 13 years. He filled us with joy, and was the best friend a human could ask for. He had his quirks, but thats what made him unique. In July 2018, Blue seemed like he was in severe discomfort. We took him to the ER with suspicions of a foreign body. When the admitted him and did a few quick diagnostics, the outcome was much worse - they found inoperable masses around his liver and spleen indicating very progressive cancer. The internal medicine specialist said it was so advanced, she did not want to biopsy for fear he would bleed out from the procedure. The oncologist explained they couldnt make a good course of treatment plan without the biopsy to determine what type of cancer was affecting Blue, but explained that in a best-case scenario with full chemotherapy we were looking at 1-3 months. We took Blue home to cry and to consider our options - he was our best friend who deserved the best opportunity at life, but he also deserved dignity and quality of life. This is when we found Dr. Schwartz and Center for Veterinary Care Millbrook. Dr. Schwartz recommended at least trying a medication not commonly used in treatment of cancer to see if Blue responded. He did! He bounced back to his regular personality. weight, and activity level. Blue outlived the oncologists predictions of 1-3 months and made it 11 months. During that time, we were able to spoil him with treats, home cooked meals, road trips, vacations, and create lasting memories. Other than the last week of his life, Blue had no clue he was sick and did not have bad days. 11 months for a dog is YEARs for a human. I cannot thank Dr. Schwartz and the team at Center for Veterinary Care enough for the opportunity to give Blue more time where he was comfortable and where we could show him the love in his last year that he had shown us in all the prior years. "

"I cannot speak highly enough about Dr Schwartz and his staff at Center for Veterinary Care! When Tess was diagnosed with Lymphoma 15 months ago, she was so sick and droopy that I thought we needed to say our goodbyes and put her down. Fast forward to December 2023: Tess is a happy, energetic, curious puppy, and no-one believes she is 13 years old and receiving chemotherapy. I am ever grateful to Dr Schwartz’s brilliance and reassuring calm. So is Tess! "

"I’ve been bringing my sweet Jack Russell Terrier, Pickles, to Dr. Schwartz
since 2016. When we moved out of state in 2023, I quickly realized how
rare it is to find a veterinarian who gives you not only exceptional care, but
genuine peace of mind. I never quite found that same trust again, trying
many other interim Veterinarians more local to my new area. That is, until a
routine exam with one of those Veterinarians revealed something troubling
in Pickles’ lab work. In that moment, I knew without hesitation where we
needed to go and made the trip back to Dr. Schwartz.
As it turns out, my instincts were heartbreakingly right—Pickles had a
cancerous liver tumor. Despite being 13 years old, after several thorough
tests, we made the difficult but hopeful decision to move forward with
surgery.
Words can’t fully express the care, compassion, and skill that Dr. Schwartz
and his team showed my little girl. I was a nervous wreck, terrified of what
might happen—but Dr. Schwartz was a constant source of comfort. Without
even having to ask, he called with updates, reassured me at every step,
and treated Pickles as if she were his own.
The surgery was a success, and her recovery has been nothing short of
miraculous. Every extra moment we get with Pickles now feels like a
precious gift—and that gift is directly because of the extraordinary care she
received at the Center for Veterinary Care. We have decided that even
though the practice is over an hour away, it’s worth it for us to make the trip,
even for routine care.
Our family will never stop being grateful to Dr. Schwartz and his incredible
team. You gave us more time, more tail wags, and more love. Thank you
from the bottom of our hearts. "

"Our Brutus was vomiting repeatedly, which was not like him, so we brought him to see Dr. Schwartz. After performing a scan, he told us that Brutus had a large mass on his pancreas. After considering the options, we decided to have Dr. Schwartz try to remove it. He called me during the surgery to tell me that the tumor was too large to remove without threatening Brutus's life. He thought it was pancreatic cancer, which would have meant Brutus had little time left, but Dr. Schwartz took a biopsy to be sure. When the results came in, he told us that it was lymphoma, which was treatable with chemotherapy. We were really touched with how happy Dr. Schwartz was that there was a treatment. He knew how much Brutus meant to us. As he always is, Dr. Schwartz was very clear about the pros and cons of the treatment. We decided to go ahead and see how Brutus responded to the chemo. We started in January and he did very well for 6 months. In fact, the large tumor completely disappeared after the first few sessions. We were so grateful for that extra time with Brutus. His favorite thing was to swim in our creek, which he was able to do many times that spring and summer. He had a few bad days but overall his energy was very good. He was also allowed to eat as much as he wanted as often as he wanted so he was very happy! In June, we were almost done with the chemotherapy treatments, but Brutus suddenly stopped eating. Dr. Schwartz discovered a new tumor that was blocking his digestion. We could have restarted the treatment, but we decided that Brutus had had enough and it was time to let him go. We spent his last afternoon together by his beloved creek and then said goodbye. It is hard to make these decisions for someone you love so much but who can't tell you what they want you to do. Dr. Schwartz was always honest about the choices and then supportive of whatever decision we made. We are so grateful to Dr. Schwartz, Tori, Heather and the whole staff who were so caring and helpful through the process. We are also very grateful for that extra time with Brutus. "
Buddy

"Our Buddy was a rescue. We first went to Dr Schwartz, when another vet found a mass in buddy. Paul explained everything that was going on with our dog to us. His diagnosis was not a good one but he was optimistic that he could help us. Paul hoped to give us our dog back, but he was concerned. We got buddy back and after his recovery he was as good as new. 10 months later there was another problem, Paul and his staff worked on this new problem and we all thought we had it beat and then the words you never want to hear, your dog has cancer. Again Paul explained everything to us and said he would do everything he could, and he did but we lost Buddy on June 26th 2025. Everyone at CVC was devastated as were my wife and I, Paul and his staff are so compassionate and helped us through a very hard day. It sucks when you go to the vets and come home with only a collar. It didn’t end with that day, we received phone calls and a card, the staff also got us an ink of his paw print, and not just one but the perfect one. We can’t say enough about everyone at CVC for what they did for us, for the two and a half years that Buddy was a patient. We recommend that if you are looking for a great vet you need to make the call to CVC, and if we get another dog Paul Schwartz will be our vet"
